What is the default video recording codec and which one do you reccommend that I use?

By default the Video Codec that is selected is Microsoft Video 1.  This codec comes with every computer and that is the reason why it's selected first. 

It's quality is a little lossy and its files can get rather big.  We suggest choosing a different codec when recording feeds.  We usually record our videos using the Mpeg 4 Video Codec, DivX Codec (www.divx.com) or Xvid Codec (www.xvid.org).  We find that its files are smaller and the quality of these codecs are great!

To get more video codecs we advise that you download install the widely popular K-Lite Codec Pack.  This will give you more codecs to select from.
